Chemical Threat Detection on Subway Platforms

Due to their high population, enclosed space, minimal security, and limited egress, underground subway platforms are vulnerable to chemical attacks. Toxic gases and chemical warfare agents can quickly overwhelm a crowded platform location.

Block's LaserWarn is designed for use on subway platforms and other locations where dust, humidity, vibration, and other environmental conditions create detection challenges for other technologies. With its >200 meter laser path length, and ruggedized enclosure, a single LaserWarn can easily cover and protect the length of a platform.

The LaserWarn is designed to detect and identify common Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) used in terrorist attacks, as well as Toxic Industrial Chemicals and Materials (TICs/TIMs) that may accidentally or incidentally be released by construction, cleaning, or maintenance activities.

The instrument is not affected by sudden increases or decreases in air volume due to tunnel piston effects. Sensor results are not affected by ambient or airborne industrial dust. LaserWarn is available in both indoor and outdoor variants to account for variable temperatures and environmental conditions.
