Standoff Chemical Detection Products
Block has decades-long experience in developing chemical sensing devices, using advanced spectroscopic techniques, such as Passive FTIR, Standard FTIR, as well as grating-based spectrometers. Our Standoff Chemical Detection products have been well-known in the Military and Homeland Security community and their ruggedness and reliability has been tested and validated over the past decade.
Over the past several years, Block has entered the MEMS markets and we are currently developing several exciting products. Our strategy is to develop sensors that could cover a vast majority of applications, ranging from parts per million, down to parts per trillion sensitivity with solids, liquids and gases. In difference to our Standoff Products presented above, these devices are Point Detectors and offer some significant advantages:
- Rapid measurements – small components allow for fast readings
- No need to extract samples, since these devices enable on-the-spot measurements
- Very low cost – use of semiconductor, high-volume manufacturing processes
- High functionality – combination of orthogonal readings (e.g. FTIR, Near Infrared, Raman in one small, handheld package)
