LaserChem™

Block is developing an IR Absorption Laser spectrometer using specially designed Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCL) in the 7-12 µm spectral range. This unique spectrometer promises to be small, low cost and capable of detecting gases in parts per trillion concentrations.

Due to its high laser power and high optical resolution (better than 0.5 cm^-1), extreme detection sensitivity can be achieved with a small size sensor. The unique design of these lasers will enable the development of low cost spectrometers. LaserChem™ is also capable of active standoff detection in conjunction with a suitable reflecting surface.

A lab testing prototype will be available in the fall of 2009 and a commercial product is expected in 2010.
