Imaging FTIR Spectrometers
i-Spec™: FTIR Imaging Spectrometer
Block Engineering's Imaging Spectrometer, i-Spec™, is a high sensitivity, high resolution, Fourier transform spectrometer that is uniquely suited for relatively slow moving events, such as gas cloud dynamic measurements, leak detection, and imaging of steady-state rocket and turbine plumes. The optical head is small, transportable, and easy to set up with its TV viewfinder.
The i-Spec™ consists of a proven high spectral rate Block spectrometer, integrated with a synchronized azimuth-elevation scanner. The scanner covers a field of regard of 10° x 14° (el, az) in each second and superimposes this pattern on a high resolution TV image. The i-Spec™ can be configured to detect spectra in the 2.5-5 µm or the 8-13 µm infrared region.
The i-Spec™ has broad applicability for situations requiring a user-friendly, two-dimensional display of gas detection overlaid on a video scene, as the two-dimensional image of SF6 release shown in the picture.
The following are typical applications:
- Mapping gas clouds as may be required during a chemical agent attack
- Mapping smokestack plumes for pollution monitoring or treaty verification.
- Drug enforcement surveillance
- Leak detection from pressurized vessels used in ships, storage tanks, or gas lines
- Spectral observation of jet engine or rocket plumes
- Remote pollution and perimeter monitoring of chemical and petrochemical facilities
