About Block Engineering

Block Engineering was founded in 1956 and has been developing and selling rugged, high performance FTIR spectrometers since then to military, government and commercial/industrial customers.

The Block brand has been associated with legendary products over the past few decades, meeting some very challenging application requirements. Today, in response to the September 11th events, our products are installed in the National Capital Region protecting critical installations from chemical terrorist attacks. Furthermore, they are also used by Special Forces to remotely survey areas and protect personnel from Weapons of Mass Destruction and Chemical Warfare Agents.

In 2004, the company decided to apply its deep understanding of FTIR technology towards the development of next generation, low cost, miniaturized MEMS-based and laser based spectrometers. Today, following seven government development contracts exceeding $6 million dollars, Block is close to releasing its first, high resolution, MEMS FTIR spectrometer, the ChemBox™.

Block is privately owned. The company's headquarters are located in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Block has also joined Boston University's Photonics Center, as one of the incubator companies, and has offices in their facility in Boston, MA.
